DatingforDeaf.com offers the standard free trial membership. As a free member you have access to most of the site except the chat room. You can send limited messages and browse members' profiles. Then there is an option to try out the site with full membership for three days only for a relatively low price. After that, if you like, you can subscribe for either 20 or 90 days. There is only one grade of paid membership after that so as a paying member you will have access to all the features on the site.
Once you have signed up and log in you will be directed automatically to the upgrade site. To get around this deliberate glitch, click the back button on your browser's history, choose the homepage and you will return to the site as logged in with your free trial membership. On a basic search we found 173 men and 84 women aged 20-40 in the whole of the UK. Of these only 32 men and only 20 women had a photo on their profile. The photos available were of varying quality. It is not mandatory for members to add a photo but websites like this encourage members to add them by putting reminders when you log on and click on your profile page. The search facility is quick and easy to use. As a full member you have the added bonus of being able to access the chat room and access more members profiles. Also with the subscription you are able to send unlimited messages and activate invisible mode. This presumably is to enable you to browse without being detected in the "who's on-line" page.
The site colors of DatingforDeaf are subdued in brown and grey and the profiles are neat and well presented. There are a fair amount of adverts on the site. Because it has a high volume of users you have a good chance of finding a date. It doesn't seem to be the most exciting looking site here and does not have as many features as some other of the sites in this category. There are no search criteria for hearing status or sign language skills so you will have to go on what members put in their profile text.
One browse feature is the "take a gamble" box which randomly selects members' photos to show up on your homepage. Underneath the photo are three buttons: "send message", "send flirt" and "ask if he/she's interested." There are also the added safety features of blocking the member from your searches or reporting the member. There is a computer matching service on this site. Also there is a manual matching feature called Rapid Match. This works a little like on-line speed dating: you are offered a photo and underneath you choose to click "yes" "no" or "maybe". You can then view your matches, see who likes you and see who you liked. On every page there is a navigation bar with a summary of your messages and favorites etc. There are also links under the community section to the chat room and rapid match feature, whatever page you are on. On the home page this navigation bar is on the left and on other pages it is on the right, so you can always access the pages you need. Why not sign up and give DatingForDeaf.com a try?
